What is Ketamine for?
It is a general anesthetic that provides excellent quality analgesia in short-duration procedures, very safe since patients retain respiratory function and protective reflexes in the upper airway.
It is also used to reduce depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress, obsessive-compulsive disorders, anorexia and bulimia, and very importantly in patients with suicidal ideation.
How does it work?
Its effect is immediate, acting as an antidepressant, reducing suicidal thoughts on the same day of the first dose. KETAMINE acts on different receptors than the antidepressants commonly used.
Most people who receive ketamine experience a decrease in depression symptoms within 3 to 4 hours. This is a very rapid response compared to most antidepressant drugs, which can take several weeks to become effective.
